LT Tram Reference Books Information

Within a few years of the end of the tramways, John Wills (senior) fortunately was able to see some LT paperwork within sacks that was being disposed of. He took the opportunity to copy most of it. It took his wife Irene weeks typing (seemingly at times 24 hours a day!) and using the old carbon sheets to make carbon copies. This work gave him the background to the tramways that he had meticulously recorded on film in their final days. Further commentary came from his immediate neighbour (to his south east London home), Ken Thorpe.

Subsequent other works have had their roots from information he discovered nearly fifty years ago. Robert Hartley has acknowledged this in "London Tramway Twilight". But there is still LPTB in East London, for which Colin Withey found unpublished data which is hoped will appear in future articles on this site.

As many of the articles on this website will include references to books, a list is given below, with a Code so as to save space and boring repetition. However, there is one book not mentioned that has been out-of-print for many years, that is specifically for those wishing to model London's tramways. Namely, London's Tramways - their history & how to model them" by David Voice published by Patrick Stephens Ltd., 1985 (ISBN 0-85059-668-8).

Happy reading.
